Well, I left in blazing sunshine shorts and white T shirt and returned to this
Pure murk and pishing rain. It’s after 20:00 now and I’m not long in after checking the traps and putting the hens to bed. Methinks even the hens were pi55ed off with the rain and midge, for they were already inside. This actually cheered me greatly cos it’s been the Devil’s own job getting them to actually go inside the hen house since the recent slaughter. They must at last be settling down, so with a little luck egg production should soon rise.
We spent most of the day going to visit me pop in the care home at Aultbea,
stopping off, as usual at the ‘Whistle Stop Cafe’ in Kinlochewe https://www.facebook.com/Whistle-Stop-Cafe-Kinlochewe-223096744444313/ . Great food, awesome coffee and lovely staff,
scary having Maggie Thatcher watching you have a pee though
Forty minutes later we arrived at Aultbea where me old Pop was on good form and even came out for a run in the new car.
Whereupon I took him around an old anti aircraft battery at Mellon Charles.
You can see, I really know how to show someone a good time hey The whole area around Loch Ewe is riddled with anti aircraft batteries, war time builds and paraphernalia as it was a convoy marshalling are during WWII and a fleet anchorage in WWI. Even the Village hall in Aultbea looks like a wartime building, probably damp and cold too but full of character
Seems like a new one is on the cards http://360architecture.com/blog/2015/july/aultbea-community-centre/
I am well impressed.
We’re delighted to announce that Threesixty Architecture has won a 2 stage design competition to create a new Community Centre at Aultbea for ARC (Aultbea Regeneration Company). Following development of the proposals with ARC and the local community, the proposals have recently been submitted for detailed Planning Approval.
Aultbea Community Centre is inspired by the forms of the traditional Scottish Blackhouse, and Aultbea’s Nissen Hut. The internal space forming the main hall is enclosed by ancillary accommodation which read as habitable walls. The main hall itself responds to the community’s aspiration for a vaulted ceiling that is top lit, to give a light and airy atmosphere whilst maintaining a sense of protection and enclosure.
Only TWO days to Bella
I have to say I’m getting pretty excited at our first festival in four years and this years ‘Bella’ which sold out LAST YEAR before any of the acts were announced looks like being a cracker. I mean the initial line up announced earlier on this year was awesome with Madness, The Darkness, Alabama 3 and Public Service Broadcasting was good enough but since then my old favourite ‘dubsters’ Dreadzone, and electronic maestros The Orb have turned up. Not to mention Celt Tech, Teuchter Acid stompers Grousebeater Sound System http://grousebeatersoundsystem.com/ who seem to have been in hiding of late
We were there somewhere down the front at Rockness 2009, awesome!
Long time admirer of Public Service Broadcasting http://publicservicebroadcasting.net/
and can’t wait to see them. They played at http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/en/ on Skye last year but I was working.
It will be my first time for ‘Ambient Electronic Dub Masters’ The Orb http://www.theorb.com/ too.
They were allegedly playing at Blue Peter night club in Inverness years ago but when Wifey and I got there it was just a guy accompanying a DJ on the bongos. Dunno if he was from the Orb right though, I was too mashed to care
