Throttled again :-(

Filed under: boats, daily doings — lifeattheendoftheroad @ 12:14 pm

Lord Knows when you’ll read this, it’s after 22:30 and I’ve given up on the internet having been ‘throttled’ by my ISP http://www.avantiplc.com/ 😦 My £50 monthly subscription only gets me 8GB, which for me is plenty, but with the school holidays upon us the boy is hammering it throughout the day 😦

Not a great today today, and by the time I arrived at work both the MV Valborg and the FV Lustre were away for their days labours. Donald off to his trawling for prawns and Skretting’s http://www.skretting.co.uk/ coaster delivering feed to the local salmon farms.

It was kind of showery but brightened up in the afternoon, a typical July day on Raasay really and nothing like the weather down sowf that the Lo***n MMXII *lympics were getting 🙂 Not that I watch it being the miserable old git that I am, just that’s it been on the TV all day that is normally switched off.

Work wise It was steady enough with a few jobs achieved down below on the generators. One of our Perkins 4.4TGM’s needing a service and the other developing an oil leak. Nothing serious and soon sorted with a new O ring.

These oil leaks from the oil filler cap are however becoming a bit of a pain

so I’ve started to make up the new rings out of a slightly thicker section rubber, 5.7mm instead of the 3/16th fitted as standard.

A new section of rubber seal was also fitted to the ramp this week, the old section having split.

I also took advantage of a convenient tide to pressure wash the barnacles off the tide gauge, strange that they seem to have an aversion to the black markings.

Anyway, lunchtime now on Tuesday and my new camera has just arrived courtesy of mum 🙂 What are mums like hey, 56 years old and she’s still spoiling me 🙂

  1. Hooray for mum! Perhaps she will hold still for a suitable portrait from your new camera?

  2. Very nice. Not so easy for the overall pockets though.

    • I need bigger pockets Lynn. I gave up on the pocket cameras a few years ago, they just couldn’t handle the dust in my pockets 😦

  4. oh, and by the way, what makes you think we’re basking in uninterrupted sunshine down here in London … we’ve had a couple of good days but are back to showers again now

  5. Paul, you might want to think about switching to tooway (I think you are with someone else atm). I am with them, and am really impressed – very fast (nearly get the 8Mbps down they advertise, and it’s just about to go up to 18Meg I think), and for 50 quid/month I get 30GB before I throttled to 1MBps, which isn’t really throttling at all in my book… Worth a look anyway. You can get the dish free on a 50 quid, 2 year contract if you look around.

  6. Great camera that Paul.
No dropping it, running over it, droping it in oil or treacle etc etc
We’ll all enjoy the fantastic pics that you The Master of all things technical will take with it.
    Best wishes
