Life at the end of the road

WooHoo, it’s the cuckoo :-)

Wasn’t going to bother posting tonight as I’m wrecked despite managing to stay in bed until almost 7:00am 🙂 Still that put me an hour ahead of the rest of the household, which is fine by me because I love the peace of mornings. To be honest if anyone else gets up during my ‘quiet time’ I feel quite peeved 🙂 Anyway did the usual feeding and rubbing of arnica into our wounded pig before having a wander over to Loch Beag to check the water level after a few dry days.

The Portree ‘prawn creeler’ Serene was busy fishing in Loch Arnish,

can’t have been much good because he took his gear out of the loch 😦

After checking the water level (which was fine) having ‘second breakfast’ and taking my boys pal down to the ferry I spent the entire rest of the day until twilight working on preparing the house for its spring coat of paint. Of course being me I kept getting sidetracked and spent hours on the paths as well as the corrugated iron roofs of all my sheds. Having blasted some loose mortar off the gable end I also did a little pointing and had it not been for hearing the cuckoo for the first time at around 18:30 as I went to feed the pigs I wouldn’t even have fired up the laptop 🙂

The house is so peaceful now the boy and his pals have gone away for a few days that I’m going to veg in front of the TV with a glass of cider and the wife 🙂

  1. Ahh, the wonderful cuckoo. I have had a many a fine day in April/May/June on top of the Black Cuillin listening to the cuckoo in the valley of Glen Brittle. I have also had many days of lashing rain and wind where I hardly hear myself think!!

    • Morning Simon,

I think the cuckoo was on his way to Rona, I’ve not heard him since 😦

  3. […] The swallows are back – lining up on the wires outside the house last night – and Paul reports a cuckoo at Arnish: https://lifeattheendoftheroad.wordpress.com/2011/04/18/woohoo-its-the-cuckoo/ […]
