Life at the end of the road

Twice as fast or half as slow :-)

A very quick one tonight as it’s already 21:20 and I’ve just sat down, the day has been exceptional only in the amount of electricity produced by my wind and hydro turbines. On all other counts it has been rather dull, and I don’t just mean the weather, though that has been pretty miserable. Actually for a good part of the day it’s been bdooly miserable,

the wind arriving with a real bang just as I was entering Loch Sligachan on the 14:30 sailing. The flat calm sea speckled with millions of rain drops very quickly turning to a nasty chop that coupled with the out going tide to reduce our speed from 7.5knots to less than 5 🙂

And whilst the wind at Arnish just passed 32mph (27knots)

the wind that was funnelled down the loch had our anemometer on the bridge clocking 41knots (47mph)

Still the journey back was much faster 🙂

Twice as fast in fact 🙂

Other notable events from the day were the ‘Ocean Spirit’ sailing by during the morning.

And mackerel cooked inside the Daily Record for breakfast, in my opinion about the only thing it’s fit for, well apart from lighting the fire 🙂 I am not a fan of the tabloid press and would have really struggled to eat the fish had it been wrapped in one of Rupert Murdoch’s mouthpieces 🙂 I know I keep banging on about cooking mackerel in this way but it really is the best way I’ve found, no smell, no mess, no dirty pan and the skin just peels off with the paper when you unwrap it. Just wrap your fish in a quarter of a paper, twist at the ends, moisten under a tap and bung in the microwave for around 45 seconds, then turn over and cook for another 45, succulent and just peels off the bone, yum, yum.

By 17:30 the rain had at last ceased and it was by far the best part of the day, so on arrival home at 20:00 I went to check the inlet of my hydro turbine.

Which was for the first time feeding all three pipes, however it was still only producing 350w so I will have to go and investigate and perhaps do some more adjustments of the ‘field’ or change nozzles, but that’s a job for Wednesday 🙂
