Porpoises at dawn

Filed under: animals, boats, daily doings — lifeattheendoftheroad @ 10:33 pm

Well this is going to be pretty rubbish because it’s well after 23:00 and I need my bed. I had fully intended writing more but it’s taken me all evening to rotate this video and post it on YouTube, being ‘not of the computer age’ I took it with the camera sideways and it is not a simple matter to turn it. Or at least not to a numpty like me.

Today actually got off to a promising start,

and I even got some painting done before we sailed at 7:55 but it quickly deteriorated, brightened only by the sight of a school of porpoises leading us into the new pier at Clachan 🙂

Anyway, here it is taken from the good ship Loch Striven on the 9:25 sailing to Raasay, as seen by the crew and the only two passengers on board 🙂

Before that we had the ‘Hebridean Princess’ sail by Goat island,

followed by lots of rain 😦

and even more rain 😦 😦

  1. This post is breathtaking. The porpoises are fabulous . Thanks so much 🙂

    • Hi Kate and welcome aboard,

really glad you enjoyed the post and video, moments like that are not uncommon but to have the sun in the right place and a camera at the same time is rare indeed.

      Cheers, Paul

  3. Jings! Looked like they’d get run over. Why do they stay so close-game of ‘catch us if you can’? Very exciting to see; thanks for posting!

  4. What a remarkable video! Thanks for all your wonderful photos of such a beautiful place. We have fond memories of Callum’s Road and the walk beyond.

    • Hi Caroline, Ruth and Flora,

Oh and welcome aboard Caroline and Ruth, glad you enjoyed the clip, though I’m not actually 100% sure they’re porpoises, several people have said they look more like dolphins but I’m no expert (on anything 🙂 )

      Cheers, Paul
