Drought? aye that’ll be right!

Filed under: daily doings — lifeattheendoftheroad @ 10:22 pm

After the previous three days of  wall to wall sunshine and me preparing for the impending spring drought, today came as a bit of a shock. I did keep opening my eyes and ears every 20 mins or so from 5:00am onwards but the lashing rain on the windows and the ‘Morgans spiced rum’ coursing through my veins from the night before prevented me from arising early. UKWind had predicted rain but this was torrential and incessant so the thought of 30 wet muddy pigs and piglets charging about my legs did not fill me with enthusiasm for the day. Eventually though the seeds of a plan for the day went through my reluctant brain and I got up some time before the 7:00am watershed! Dunno what it is but I’m wracked with guilt if I stay in bed later than 7:00 🙂 Anyway once up I whizzed round and fed the herd of pigs then took pity on the 3 Soay sheep who were sheltering under the Landrover and fed them in my workshop.

Once everyone was fed I set about a nice inside job, wiring up 12v LED downlights for the bathroom, our house has both a 230v ring main and a 12v one so wiring up these lights meant I did not need the usual transformer assosciated with MR16 12v lights. It did however mean cutting 4 holes in the bathroom ceiling and spending hours running new cables through tricky places so I was glad of a little distraction provided by two very wet bikers.

Johnny Mcmaster and Darren turned up to provide a little light relief from eyes full of plaster and wood chip, both these dudes are doing the ‘Calum’s road ride’ http://calumsroad.info/ and Darren had come all the way from Armagh in Northern Ireland to check it out. Johnny had only come from Skye so he should have had more sense 🙂 Anyway after drying them out and warming them up with coffee they went on their way in the pishing rain.

As did my darling wife in the ‘Old Girl’ because her wheel bearing had not arrived yet!

So apart from brief dashes to my workshop for tools I never left the house until it stopped raing around 5:00pm

When the sun came out,  provided us with a magnificent rainbow and I stepped outside to fit the correct wheel bearing to wifey’s Astra and feed the pigs.
