Not much to report

A bit of a none day really, pretty quiet on the ferry and just doing the usual finishing off at the end of a weeks shift. Though I was only in 3 days and my opposite number did most of the work so it was rather uneventful. Not many fresh developments on the village hall or harbour and I filled a trailer full of rock for the car park at home and that was about it. Though I’m really looking forward to tomorrow as the Dude and I are going to visit the old ‘Howard Doris’ yard at loch Kishorn to see where the concrete sections are being made for the harbour. The yard really was a sight to behold in it’s heyday of the late 70s early 80s, covering a couple of square miles at least and with over 3000 people working there on the construction of the ‘Ninian Central’ concrete platform which was (and still is to my knowledge) the worlds largest man made moveable object. I was there in 86 or 87 when it closed down dismantling some of the sheds and it was quite a bizzare experience. As it’s in the middle of nowhere with it’s own cinema, bakeries, and shanty town of chalets and caravans. There’s a massive dry dock carved out of the rock with huge concrete gates. I can’t wait to go and see it 20 years on, it will be interesting to see what nature has reclaimed.
