That is light going to and returning from work. Well it was actually light both ways yesterday but I forgot to mention it, which is unusual because it’s one of the years little milestones like the sun coming in through the kitchen window on the 11th of Feb or the cuckoo in April. Not full daylight but light enough to get by without headlights and as I leave round 6:30 and return at the same time in the evening it really feels like winters back is broken.
Loch Arnish and Torran @ 6:30
It was as ever a pleasurable drive down ‘Calum’s road’ to work and apart from the stunning views the only bit of excitement was a stag that leapt across the road infront of me.
Considering I was doing about 20mph, it was raining and the flash went off I can’t believe I actually caught it on film so to speak. OK I know it’s a cr4p picture but you had to be there!
More joined up thinking
The morning on the ferry was quite busy with traffic related to the ‘Raasay house’ refurbishment, village hall and harbour so when I saw this I was pleased to see more ‘common sense’ at work.
As driving it on the ferry would have involved lots of rubber mats and possibly an extra sailing, not to mention costing the owner a few Quid. With the volume of traffic and my latest project of changing the emergency batteries on the ferry and painting the box I almost forgot to look at that most excellent wee local newspaper the ‘West highland free press’ which comes out today and we always get a copy on the ferry.

Sad or what
So imagine my excitement when I saw this
reproduced without the kind permission of the WHFP (and I’m really sorry guys as I think it’s a most excellent paper and I’m hoping you’ll let me off for breach of copyright)
And I was more excited by the possibility of a Lidl in Portree than the Dude being in the paper ( he’s 3rd from right on back row) or Raasay getting a new harbour (well I already knew that!). This is what passing 50 does to you, you no longer get kicks from driving at 134mph or diving to 60m on air or risking your life daily on the sea instead you get all weak at the knees at the prospect of a discount supermarket!!!!
The hall and the harbour
With all the excitement of the morning it was a bit of a rush going to check out the various works. First stop was the village hall mountain.
Which John Archie was busy moving 16 tons at a time.
down to ‘Grumpy digger driver’ who was now ‘Grumpy roller driver’
Who was busy turning the mountain into a lovely wide slipway and hard standing.
He did give me his trade mark 1 fingered salute but I was too slow with the camera and had to depart for the next ferry sailing! so apart from seeing a few more bonnie stags, a buzzard and several woodcock on the way home that was about it for the day.
