As I keep saying, I just love Sundays and today was no exception (at first). I can have a lie in bed until 6:30 and still have a couple of hours pottering about before I set off for work. The day was bright and it wasn’t long before the sun was out. The wind had died to nothing and the birds were singing there heads off, I stepped outside and could here all of the pigs despite them being between 1 and 2 hundred yards away. The three large Tamworths about 100yds to the west, jostling for position at the trough and all trying to get to the end where I feed first despite me just being out of the door. The 7 wee Tamworths all grunting merrily in the corner of the field where I climb the fence about 150yds to the north west and the 2 chilled ‘old spots’ about 200yds east just making their presence known and no more ( Gloucester old spots are a truly laid back pig ). I went about my round in the usual order of big Tamworths, wee Tamworths then the two ‘old spots’ as this seems to cause the least disruption. Bramble one of the large Tamworths can climb a fence if she thinks your not going to feed her and the wee Tamworths make so much racket you’d swear they were eating each other whilst the two ‘old spots’ just wait patiently with the odd grunt. Whilst in with the wee darlings I spotted this hawthorne that had obviously got confused by the mild weather.
Now this will probably not get anyone south of here very excited as your probably awash with daffodils and your rhododendron’s are almost out but to me at the wild north end of Raasay it was very noteworthy and made me feel even better. Though the day went downhill a little as it wore on with a cold wind from the north west and some nasty showers.
Now I’m very much a morning person (unlike mrs C) and I’m always the first at work, except for Sundays, it happens every week and today was no exception. I start pottering about doing things and before I know it I’m late but luckily I don’t have to worry about the traffic on this or any other day. I’ve only met 2 vehicles this year on my 11 mile journey to work, the gritter and the gritter. So being the first of the month I shot off down ‘Calum’s road’ shouting rabbits!
Now I may not have seen many daffodils this year but I’ve seen other strange yellow shoots growing off the hydro poles!
Now they definitely weren’t there last week and I can only assume that the same mild weather that brought out my hawthorn has somehow affected the hydro poles. They are sprouting everywhere, some poles even have two! Joking apart I can only assume that some clown has walked into a stay drunk, seen one of those adverts that seem to be on skyTV during the day, you know the ones, ‘we’ll sue the pants off someone for you and take 75% of the cash’ so now every telegraph pole in Britain within 500m of a footpath or road probably has to have one of these bright yellow pipes round it. The world has gone mad!!! well at least it won’t be going on my electricity bill.
